Polyethylene Cups and caps are very useful
for mixing and storing resins.
Please see our complete line of Laboratory Plastic ware
Araldite resin produces relatively hard blocks with minimal shrinkage allowing the easy production of thin sections. The use of an intermediate solvent such as propylene oxide allows rapid infiltration of the specimen by this high viscosity resin.

As reported by Dr.Spurr

Spurr VCD resin gives exceptionally good penetration results due to
its very low viscosity. It has good cutting characteristics
aided by the block surface being hydrophobic. It also has the
advantage of being more transparent than most epoxy resins. The
hardness is adjusted by changing the proportion of the

Vestopal 310 Embedding Kit
(Formerly Vestopal W)
Vestopal 310 is a
styrene-polyester based resin of high
viscosity. Its polymer is fully cross linked and therefore very
stable in the electron beam. This resin has a fine grain,
sections easy and stains well. It hardens without shrinkage.

TAAB 812 Resin Kit
A high quality resin produced in small batches. It has a high
specification, and a weight per Epoxide (WPE) of 148-150. It is
a reliable,
popular resin suitable for EM and giving very good results in LM,
but it still has quite a high viscosity. While this is acceptable
for EM, it can restrict specimen size for LM.

A relatively low viscosity epoxy resin developed by TAAB to counter some of the deficits of both Araldite and Epon 812. Developed for biological specimens for EM and LM, it exhibits excellent cutting and staining qualities, with freedom from background “grain”. A wide range of hardness can be obtained by varying the proportions of the hardeners DDSA and NMA.

A low viscosity epoxy resin with comparable performance to
Spurr’s resin, except that a softer block is usually produced. It
has good sectioning characteristics, and electron beam stability.
It is a good resin for LM use and is easy to handle. An exceptional advantage is
that the monomer is water miscible and can be used to dehydrate
specimens where alcohol and acetone should be avoided.

TAAB has
available in PREMIX form the popular embedding resins (Spurr’s, and
Taab 812) with which the microscopist is already fully familiar and
obtains high quality results. The PREMIX offers the added bonus of
increased reproducibility of results as weighing of components is no
longer necessary.
The procedure is very simple:
Each kit consists of 5 sets of each of the two components, plus 5 ampoules of
accelerator.
One component is in a 125 ml capacity bottle, the other is in a 60
ml capacity bottle.
Simply empty the contents from the smaller bottle into the larger
bottle, mix, then add the contents of one ampoule of accelerator,
mix thoroughly again and approximately 100g of resin media is now ready
for use. No additional containers are required, and any unused resin
can either be stored in a refrigerator or freezer for later use or
left to set in the bottle before it is discarded.

Lowicryl resins are highly cross-linked acrylate based embedding
resins. These resins provide low viscosity at low temperature.
Both Lowicryl K4M and Lowicryl K11M are water miscible and can be used at low
temperature for embedding as K4M -35°C
and K11M -60°C.
This is Very useful in preventing lipid and protein extraction. Both resins
are polar (hydrophilic) media.
Lowicryl HM20 and
Lowicryl HM23 are nonpolar (hydrophobic) resins
which can be used even at temperatures as low as
-70°C
in the case of
Lowicryl HM20 and -80°C.
in the case of
Lowicryl HM23.
Lowicryl
K4M is very useful for immuno-staining techniques. Immuno
staining with Protein A Coated colloidal gold does not interfere
with post-staining on Lowicryl K4M sections. All of these resins are photopolymerized by long wavelength
(360 nm) ultraviolet light.
They can also be chemically polymerized at 60°
C.

Nanoplast FB101 is a highly water-soluble melamine resin system for use in electron microscopy. It is particularly suitable for high resolution. Apart from possessing excellent casting properties it permits the infiltration of biological specimens without the need of conventional dehydration with organic solvents.
Biological materials which have been embedded in Nanoplast and cut
with a diamond knife yield a structural resolution unattainable by
other methods.

This new Universal resin embedding media is for:
Light and Electron Microscopy
Immunolabelling
In-Situ Hybridization
Histochemistry.
Unicryl™ is a single component new resin. It is easy to use and provides excellent structural reservation. Unicryl™ is largely hydrophilic, allowing good access to polar solutions. The tissues do not chemically interact or crosslink with the resin.
Unicryl™ has excellent polymerization properties which is mainly due
too the fact that all of the components of the polymer have similar
molecular weights.
Unicryl™ is premixed and is supplied as a single component. Unicryl
has a long shelf life when it is stored in the cold. The resin has a
low viscosity, even at temperatures as low as -50°C.
It is miscible with alcohol, ethyl alcohol, acetone and many
other solvents that can be used for dehydration.
The Resin can be polymerized by heat: 50°C
- 60°C
or by UV irradiation at low temperature: -10°C
to -20°C.

9100 is a polymerization system based on methyl methacrylate (MMA)
which hardens at low temperature. It has been specially developed
for embedding mineralized tissues with extensive possibilities of
staining for light microscopy.
The chemical polymerization of Technovit®
9100 takes place under the exclusion of oxygen with the aid of a
catalyst composed of a peroxide and an amine components such as PMMA
powder and a regulator allow for a controlled polymerization at
temperatures between -8°C and -20°C, which guarantees a dispersion
of the heat generated during polymerization. Polymerization time is
between 18 - 24 hours when using a volume between 3 -15 ml in the
above temperature range.

3040 is a yellow, fast curing methyl methacrylate based resin.
Its chemical composition warrants a firm durable bond with
Technovit® 7100
or
Technovit® 8100 and secure fixing of the specimens to the histobloc.
Technovit® 3040 consists of two components, (power and liquid),
allowing easy mixing, good adherence to the specimen, and fast
curing. Technovit® 3040 should be mixed to a highly viscous
consistency. Depending on the room temperature, Technovit® 3040 will
cure in 5-10 minutes.
